JAN Trust was delighted to win the ‘small charity big achiever’ category at the prestigious Third Sector Awards for Excellence held at The Grand Connaught Rooms in London on Thursday 26th September, 2013. Known as the ‘Awards to win’, a nod from the Third Sector Excellence Awards is among the most prestigious accolades a charity can hope to achieve.

JAN Trust is thrilled that the hard work of our staff, trustees and volunteers has been recognised nationally. JAN Trust works with the most marginalised, vulnerable and hard-to-reach individuals and communities that are often overlooked by other agencies. It is therefore important that the essential work grassroots charities such as JAN Trust does be acknowledged.

It is currently a time of great change and uncertainty in the voluntary sector, and funding cuts across the board have meant many charities limiting or cutting vital services. For JAN Trust to thrive and be honoured during these difficult times is a testament to the hard work of our staff and volunteers, and the constant enthusiasm and feedback we get from our service users.

Forty experts from the charity sector came together to judge this year’s award entries. The ‘small charity, big achiever’ award honours small organisations that have made a big impact with innovative projects. One of the judges, Ger Graus, chief executive of the Children’s University, said:

“The JAN Trust stands out in an excellent field because of its incredible impact with a limited budget. It is a challenging and courageous charity.”

Sajda Mughal, Projects Director of JAN Trust said about the award:

“We are delighted to have been awarded the title for ‘small charity, big achiever’ by the Third Sector Awards for Excellence. We hope that winning this prestigious award will help us to reach even more vulnerable women across London and the UK”
